Starting and owning your own business can be an exciting, but often overwhelming time. During this time, many business owners don’t think about detecting and protecting themselves from fraud. Unfortunately, most will experience some level of fraud throughout the life of their business.

Join Jenny Smith, a Certified Fraud Examiner from McGowen Hurst Clark & Smith, as she discusses fraud risks, shares stories about fraud in small businesses, and gives key take-aways to protect your business.

Jenny Smith, CPA, CFE, joined MHCS in November 2009 and currently serves as a Director in the Assurance department. Jenny specializes in closely-held businesses in the transportation and manufacturing, wholesale, and distribution (MWD) industries. She also provides services to employee benefit plans including defined contribution, employee stock ownership, and health and welfare plans. Jenny is a Certified Fraud Examiner and uses this knowledge to advise clients on ways to protect their business and perform fraud investigations. Jenny grew up in Oskaloosa, Iowa and attended Iowa State University. Currently, she lives in Norwalk with her husband, Joey, and four children. Jenny is a board member at Hawthorn Hill and Bidwell Riverside Center and is a member of Relevé networking group. She is also a 2016 graduate of the West Des Moines Leadership Academy and a 2016 Business Record Forty Under 40 honoree.
