Courtney Buhrow is a physical therapist and owner of Revive Physical Therapy and Wellness, a pelvic health and wellness physical therapy office in Johnston.
Please tell us about your background.
I grew up in Cedar Falls and graduated from high school in 2010. I went to college at Winona State University for two years and then transferred to the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) and finished my degree in exercise science. After I graduated from UNI, I went to Des Moines University (DMU) to get my doctorate in physical therapy. I have been in Des Moines since I graduated from DMU in 2018.
Please tell us about your business.
I started my business in January 2022, renting a small room in the back of a shoe store. I have since added three full-time employees and we now have our own clinic front in Johnston. We specialize in women’s health, treating women through pelvic floor physical therapy and perimenopause health coaching. We help women get to the root cause of their symptoms from childbearing years through perimenopause. We also treat men, as they also have a pelvic floor.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
I love that I get to help empower women to improve their overall health and well-being. I enjoy helping others solve problems and understand how everything in their bodies works together. I also enjoy getting to connect with clients and other business owners.
Why did you join NAWBO Iowa and what do you appreciate about it?
I joined NAWBO Iowa because it was important to me to be surrounded by other like-minded women. Business ownership can be challenging, but also very rewarding. Having other women around you going through similar things helps you to remember that you are not alone. I have made some great relationships with other women and business owners in different industries, who I probably wouldn’t have met otherwise. It’s great to know other local businesses that I can use personally or professionally.
What does NAWBO mean to you?
It is a wonderful group of like-minded women who are supporting and encouraging each other through the highs and lows of business ownership.
What are you most looking forward to this year?
I am looking forward to speaking to other women at conferences and coaching about improving their own health and lifestyle. I am excited to educate them on the impact of stress and trauma on our health and how we can make changes to avoid burnout and feeling low energy all the time.
