NAWBO IOWA MEMBER Q&A: Teri Kallem

Teri Kallem is Clean Crafted Wine Consultant for Scout & Cellar and founder/owner of S.H.E Fitness & Nutrition.

Please tell us about your background.

I was born in Texas, but I spent most of my time growing up in Kansas City and Chicago. I got a BFA in Interior Design from Iowa State University and worked in design for 20 years before starting a second career in fitness and nutrition. This second career was fueled by my own personal journey to create healthier habits and navigate aging in a strong, fit way. I wanted to learn as much as I could about women's fitness and nutrition, so I studied to become a Certified Personal Trainer.

As founder & owner of S.H.E. Fitness & Nutrition, my passion for empowering other women in their own journey was fulfilled. It also allowed me to be self-employed, setting my own schedule and working  around my teenage children at the time.

Then, because of my passion for learning about and tasting wine, I became an independent Clean Crafted wine consultant four years ago. The product fit my nutritional goals and added an unexpected side business to my plate. Today this business has grown to be so much more than I ever expected.

Please tell us about your business.

I feel extremely blessed to be "working" for three businesses I absolutely love!

In 2022, I added another independent consultant position to my plate, working with one of my dearest friends in her franchise, Made In The Shade. Working with Jen, one of the strongest, smartest entrepreneurs I know, doesn't seem like work! Finding solutions for residential and commercial window treatments has always been a favorite when it comes to the design world.

In 2023, I made a big, financially motivated decision. I will focus most of my time and efforts on my Clean Crafted and Made In The Shade businesses, while still training a part-time fitness clientele.

Why did you join NAWBO Iowa and what do you appreciate about it?

I was a member 18 years ago. I always looked forward to NAWBO meetings but needed to pull back on my commitments when I had small children.

In late 2021, NAWBO started popping up on my Facebook page again, and I believed it was a sign to get back involved. I've been a member again for one year, and have made so many wonderful connections. The support of these women is so much more than any other networking group I've ever been involved with.

I have found that the monthly workshops are very informative and beneficial, as well as the monthly coffee and cocktails with conversations!

What do you enjoy most about what you do?

Helping others find results and solutions (especially for women) across the board in my businesses is so rewarding.

Another thing I am passionate about is connecting people. I love to help other women make connections that benefit them in their business and personal lives.

What are you most looking forward to in 2023?

Smooth, successful transitions. I believe every step in my career has happened for a reason.
