NAWBO IOWA MEMBER Q&A: Tracy Hitchcock

Tracy Hitchcock is president and partner at Capitol Benefits Group, an independent benefits agency in Des Moines.

Please tell us about your background.

I grew up in northwestern Iowa. I was blessed to spend my childhood summers at my grandparents' home and farm playing with my sister and cousins. In addition to eating a lot of corn on the cob and ice cream, I also learned a lot about life from my precious grandparents who stood for qualities like hard work, loyalty to family, kindness, sticking your nose in a good book, and rooting for the underdog.

Please tell us about your business.

I founded Capitol Benefits Group in 2019. We are an independent benefits agency located right here in Central Iowa. Our team specializes in group insurance and customized benefits solutions to give companies a competitive edge when attracting and retaining top talent. We take a strategic approach to analyzing employee recruitment and retention needs, and budget, then develop a targeted strategy to satisfy those needs and add value with insurance solutions and HR support.

Our team also provides support to individuals and families with purchasing medical/dental/vision benefits outside of the workplace.

Why did you join NAWBO Iowa and what do you appreciate about it?

One of my company's business partners is KHI Solutions. Lynn Schreder of KHI Solutions recruited me to NAWBO.

I appreciate that NAWBO is a diverse group of small to large female business leaders representing a wide range of industries. The women of NAWBO are women who you can learn from in business, but also who you can count on to step alongside you if you are simply looking for connections and friendships.

What do you enjoy most about what you do?

I love meeting new people and learning their backstories.

What are you most looking forward to this year?

I’m looking forward to spending time with my entire family, but I especially look forward to supporting my daughter’s search for her future college and watching her play competitive softball. I am looking forward to a family trip that we will be taking to Myrtle Beach this July where she'll compete in high school softball nationals and the rest of the family will be able to enjoy a family summer vacay!

I am also looking into a business leadership certification course that I hope to pursue and complete, candidates are nominated and a select handful are chosen.

What does NAWBO mean to you?

NAWBO means different things to me but I'll share that the following words resonate with me: Authenticity, Professional Development, Leadership, Connectivity, and Fun!
