Jill Miller is a realtor with Remax Precision in Clive, Iowa. She also is also the owner and managing partner of FOAM Carwash Express in Urbandale, Iowa.
What is your background?
I grew up in Ames. My dad was a professor of genetics at Iowa State University, and my mom was the director of the Brunier Art Gallery and on the Ames City Council. When it came to choosing a university, I wanted to get out of my hometown and went to the University of Iowa, where I majored in finance.
After I met my husband, we moved around six or seven times, and we lived in Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Texas, Missouri and Tennessee. During all of these moves, we worked with many Realtors, and I wasn’t always satisfied with them. This inspired me to become one myself so that I could make sure people get the service and attention they deserve.
Tell me about your business.
Buying a home is a big deal, and I wanted to get into real estate to help others have a smooth experience. I have been in the business for eight years, starting at Iowa Realty and then moving to Remax Precision a couple of years ago. My goal is to make sure people understand the process and have someone to work with who really wants to help them and give them honest answers.
I also opened a carwash with my husband in May 2021, FOAM Carwash Express in Urbandale. I was active in getting the business started and I have enjoyed being part of it.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
Every client and situation is unique. Everyone has a different story, and my goal is to help them transition to a new home and meet their needs along the way.
I love helping people experience the dream of homeownership and making it easy for them. I moved to six states in a short period of time. Every time we bought a house, I added to a list of things I wished my Realtor would have done. Now, as a Realtor myself, I have made that wish list my promise to my clients.
I am a helper by nature. When they are buying a house, people need you to be an expert and they need someone honest.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a veterinarian for a long time. However, on a high school career day, I had an opportunity to visit the vet college at ISU. I sat through surgery and it crushed my dreams — I realized being a vet is not all about petting puppies all the time!
My dad is a geneticist, but I am NOT a scientist like he is. I went the math route in college because it seemed to make sense. But, when you’re young, you aren’t really clear on your future. At the time, I didn’t have a lot of resources to figure out what I wanted to do. But I am grateful for that now — had I had that, I maybe would have gone a different route with my life.
If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be?
I would love to learn to speak multiple languages. I would love to be able to communicate in many different ways! I would also love to be an expert mediator. There is so much hate out there, and I wish I could be that person to help everyone move forward.
