NAWBO IOWA MEMBER Q&A: Stephanie Burnett

This month, we're excited to feature the owner of Celebrations Party and Rental, Stephanie Burnett!

Please tell us about your background.
I grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated from Lincoln High School. I attended Iowa State University and have a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Please tell us about your business.
I opened Celebrations Party & Rental in 2003 in Ames, Iowa. It started as a retail party store and a small rental business. Now 21 years later we rent tents, tables, chairs, staging, linens, backdrop, concession machines, and many other items. We have held the Iowa State University contract for over 10 years, and we do all the rentals for their events. Our party store is now over 5000 square feet, and we offer everything from balloons to theme party decor to gift items.

What do you enjoy most about what you do?
I enjoy working hard and seeing the effect of that hard work. The special event business is something I’m passionate about, especially when it comes to helping my customers celebrate the happy events in their lives. I love the feeling of owning my own business, and I have been lucky to have a great staff to support me in the journey. And owning a party store comes in handy for my own celebrations!

Why did you join NAWBO Iowa and what do you appreciate about it?
I was referred to NAWBO by a friend who is a current member. I have heard many great things about being a member and look forward to the opportunity to network with other successful women that understand the challenges of owning our own businesses. I hope to make a few new friends too.

What does NAWBO mean to you?
NAWBO is a great opportunity for women to network and meet new people that understand the challenges we all face. Hopefully we can all learn something new from each other.

What are you most looking forward to in 2025 and beyond?
Since I have been working really hard on the company for almost 22 years and have hit middle age, I am looking to be able to step away a little bit during our slow season and start enjoying life outside the business a little more.
