The only program in Iowa focused solely on women
who own established businesses.

NAWBO IOWA LAUNCHES NEW BUSINESS INSTITUTE

The NAWBO Iowa Business Institute is a 7-month program for women business owners (WBOs), focused on the ultimate goal of business growth by enhancing business skills, building like-minded connections, and receiving education through engagement. The program creates a safe and confidential environment for open discussion and relationship building, and provides the opportunity to incorporate business planning and goal-setting.

THE "MISSING MIDDLE"

The Business Institute is for WBOs who own an established business that has not yet reached $1 million in revenue, and meet the program criteria. Existing programs tend to focus on start-ups or businesses over $1 million in revenue, but there is limited support specifically for businesses that are ready for the next level of growth — the "missing middle."

With the challenging business environment we
are currently in, it is now even more important
for women business owners to have a support
base for connecting and learning.

APPLICANT CRITERIA

We know these are challenging times as we navigate COVID-19 — especially for solopreneurs and small businesses. NAWBO Iowa is committed to subsidizing the first year of tuition costs. The value of this program is $1,500+. However, since this is our inaugural year and due to the virus, we have greatly reduced the cost per person for this first year.

WBO Applicant Criteria

The Business Institute strives to fill two classes,

each with 10-12 WBOs:

Class 1: WBOs with no employees, though may use independent contractors

Class 2: WBOs with at least one full-time employee

Criteria for both classes:

Owned business for 3+ years

Annual revenues under $1 million

Any business can apply; however, NAWBO members will be given preference if applications exceed class sizes.

Applicants must commit to attending all sessions and sign a confidentiality agreement.

We will strive to have a variety of business and industry types in each class, and no direct competitors, so WBOs can talk openly and honestly.
